How To Always Look Put Together
If you are anything like me you probably don't feel like dressing up in the morning about 3 times a week...at least! But at the same time you find it nerve-wrecking and are tired of regretting your half-hearted outfit choices. To end this misery I decided to find ways to always look put together, sophisticated and fashionable without having to ponder about what to wear for hours. Here is what has proven to work for me over time:
Throw on a baseball cap or hat
They don't only hide a bad hair day and look super classy and effortless, they also provide some extra sun protection. I love to wear a fedora or floppy hat in fall as it makes me feel like a lady from a different time.
A baseball cap on the other hand gives you this casual candid vibe and also shields your eyes on a Saturday morning in the grocery store wearing sweatpants. Hats and caps can seriously dress an outfit up and down and have transformed into major wardrobe essentials for me.
Go Monochrome

My personal favorite since monochrome is pretty much my everyday style. But you just can't possibly go wrong with an all-black or all-white outfit even if you mix fabrics and patterns. It's a win-win situation because you don't need to spend minutes choosing what colors to combine and your outfit will always turn out timeless and chic. You can also pair any bag or jewelry with an monochrome outfit. On days where you want some extra unff to your look you can put on a bright lipcolor or paint your nails in a bold color to make your outfit a little bit more interesting.
Keep it simple and stick to the basics

A safe guideline to look put together is to stick to essential basics. A t-shirt, leather jacket and jeans go with most shoes like sneakers, heels, booties or sandals. An airy blouse with jeans and loafers paired with a trenchcoat looks classy and effortless at the same time. A black turtleneck, skinnie jeans and booties will take you everywhere looking on point in the winter. Develope your own uniform that you can rely on and throw together whenever getting-ready-time is limited. If you keep it simple with your own personal wardrobe essentials and create 2-3 bulletproof looks that fit most occasions you'll be satisfied with your outfit even on hectic days.
Try the capsule wardrobe trend

No really, keep reading. I know you maybe can't hear it anymore but let me explain why a capsule wardrobe might be the best solution for us lazy girls. Firstly you have fewer options which is a good thing. If you have less clothes to choose from you will find it easier to come up with combinations because you keep the overview much better. Also you get to know yourself and your style and will probably save some money in the process and the long run. If you figure what pieces you never gravitate towards to and what truly speaks to you you will end up with less impulse buys. Plus it's so much fun, you really need to give it a try at least.
The so-called "2/3 rule"
A lazy girl does not have the nerves nor time to overdo her makeup, hair or outfit. Which is great because the 2/3 rule advises to either put your focus on your hair and makeup if you feel lazy or uninspired with your outfit and the other way to pay attention to your hair and outfit if you're not in makeup mode. Following this rule you will always look casually put together but never overkill.
Plan ahead

Okay, I realize not everyone is such an organization freak like me, but listen: I safe up to about 30 minutes every morning only by preparing my outfit, makeup, lunch and handbag the night before (what takes about 15 minutes). You don't even need to prepare everything about your outfit or makeup, maybe choose your jacket, shoes or lipstick in the morning but prepare a good bit of your outfit and makeup and in any case prepare your bag (you don't want to need to rush back home because you forgot your car keys or traffic ticket). If you have your look planned out you can give yourself time to get ready, be more chill and start the morning in a relaxed mood.
Skin, Nails, Makeup and Hair
Put on a pair of sunglasses

Sometimes you just need to cover your eyes. Whether you had a sleepless night and no concealer was able to cover those undereye circles or you simple didn't have the energy to even try. Your savour in those cases will be a good pair of sunglasses that frames your face well. Sunglasses are an easy accessory that can make your outfit reach a whole different level. My personal favourite are cateye sunnies since they make you look badass.
Wear your jackets over your shoulders
This trend is so easy and effortless and its effect unbelievable. Whatever you are wearing that doesn't impress you just throw your jacket over your shoulders you instanlty look chic and classy. That's it. Let the sleves hang down your arms and walk powerful like you own the streets.
Wear a watch
I really am most lazy when it comes to jewelry and accessories. But one piece I'm always wearing is a watch. A watch is such a timeless but important aspect to me as it stands for timelessness, vintage nostalgia, luxury and statement. I prefer minimal designs and leather bands but there is such a huge variety of styles to choose from. Find a watch that suits your fashion style and lifestyle and pair it with your outfits to make them look classy.
Carry a structured bag

Especially if you work in an professional area a structured bag is a must-have. They make you look ten times more sophisticated as they pair with almost everything (for instance the shirt, jeans, blazer uniform). On top of that they are mostly very sturdy and scratch-resistant (I recommend saffiano, pebbled and epi leather or faux leather alternatives). These bags also make good university or schoolbags as they often can fit an 13 inch laptop, a tablet and notebooks. There are plenty of different styles in all price ranges. Some that I can think of are:
- Prada Saffiano Double Zip (picture above)
- Louis Vuitton Cappucines
- Givenchy Antigona (in pebble grained leather)
- Celine Luggage Tote
- Coach Swagger Pebbled Leather Satchel
- Ralph Lauren Dome (which I own)
- Ralph Lauren Newbury
- Michael Kors Selma
Shoulders back, chest out
Lastly you can generally wear anything and make it work just with having good posture. The way you carry yourself and your outfit tells people if you value your clothes (even if that sounds silly). If you walk like a queen like you own it, you own it. People will think "It's a look" even if they don't like what you wear, simply because you wear it with confidence.
That was it for this post. I hope it was helpful and that some of my tips might cut out some precious minutes out of your daily routine. If you have any more tips to share just leave them in the comments section below :)
